Teaching and Learning Resources Platform

A New Era for Future-Proof Graduates

The rapid revolution of technology advancement has brought shorter and faster cycles of change. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation are transforming how work is organized and performed in the fourth industrial age. Our Generation Z (GenZ) students will face increasingly complex post-pandemic remote working environments. It is essential that they acquire lifelong learning skills to keep up with changes in the workplace or change in job types for a new world of work.

The College is to offer state-of-the-art learning experiences so that it is ready to adapt to the jobs of tomorrow by implementing interactive blended learning (iBL) with sound pedagogies as one of the key milestones for the College to nurture students with core competences. For instance, teachers adopting an inquiry-based approach in teaching may combine streaming video conferencing platforms with augmenting learning. Students may experience real-time communication while exploring new concepts with the augmented reality (AR) app on hand. Leadership, adaptability and collaboration are the key skills to build success in the workforce. Thus, students are nurtured in the curriculum in which they learn these skills by team-based learning in face-to-face tutorials, logging their contributions in an online project platform, presenting their project online to peers and invited professionals for comments and reflecting on comments for improvement. With the rapidly changing nature of work, students need to build a capacity for reflection as a way to acquire independent and collaborative learning. Learning is no longer bounded by four walls and a structured curriculum. Students can access many open learning resources in which they can exercise self-directed learning and have the possibility to have intellectual and cultural exchanges with international learners in massive open online courses.

Adoption of iBL is to prepare future-proof graduates for sustainable employability. On the other hand, teachers need to build capacity for a deeper fusion of technologies in Education 4.0. With face-to-face curricular activities, a restructuring of traditional content delivery can now be channeled with video conferencing platforms as synchronous activities with integration of a spectrum of interactive web-based tools and apps for deeper learning. Asynchronous learning activities can be extended from set quizzes, students may rehearse concepts with augmented reality or do simulations using immersive virtual reality. Moreover, they may be engaged in related open educational resources or mini-projects with local and international collaboration and research opportunities.

Education 4.0 has created the nexus of artificial intelligence, robotics, big data, data analytics, 3D printing, internet of things and mixed reality applied. Going beyond technology adoption, it allows systems to be integrated for review and in-depth analysis. Not only can students review whether they have achieved their goals in academic study, iBL can strengthen their ability in self-management and self-direction, while teachers play a crucial role in providing just-in-time care and support for diverse needs and character building of GenZ students.
